Nets Guard Caris LeVert Will Not Need Foot Surgery

Caris LeVert and the Brooklyn Nets breathed a sigh of relief on Tuesday. The team announced that Caris LeVert will not need surgery on his dislocated foot.

Caris LeVert suffered a subtalar dislocation of his right foot during Monday’s 120 – 113 defeat at the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Brooklyn Nets guard landed hard on his right leg as he attempted a chase-down block with 3 seconds remaining in the first half. He had to be carried off the court and taken to hospital for further evaluation.

He left the game with 10 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds.

“Fortunately, tests performed this morning revealed that there are no fractures and only moderate ligament damage,” Nets team orthopedist Dr. Martin O’Malley said in a statement.

“While the optics of this injury may have appeared to be more severe, surgery will not be required.”

O’ Malley also said that LeVert is “expected to return to full strength and resume all basketball activities without any limitations this season.”

On the same day, LeVert tweeted his relief that the injury wasn’t as bad as it first appeared.

“I just want to thank God above all things b/c despite how bad the injury looked, it could’ve been a lot worse. Thanks to all for the prayers, messages, love, support for both my family & me. We appreciate you all! Can’t wait to get back out there with my brothers!!!”

LeVert has had an injury or two in his time. Both his junior and senior years at Michigan were cut short by injuries. As well as that, his rookie NBA season was truncated by an operation on his foot.

Since putting those problems behind him, he has become one of the NBA’s best young players. He has become a vital cog in the new-look Brooklyn Nets machine. Before the Minnesota game, he was averaging 19 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.
