At 32 years old, he’s one of the oldest quarterbacks the Redskins were looking at, but he does have the most experience, and Washington may value that especially if they want to make a run in the playoffs.
The Redskins are still in first place in the NFC East at 6-4, but the loss of Smith will obviously be felt moving forward. The coaches have faith in McCoy, but want a backup who can come in and perform if need be.
