Warriors star Kevin Durant says ‘hell yeah’ he’d like to own an NBA team

Since the NBA agreed to allow the Seattle SuperSonics to depart the city to become the Oklahoma City Thunder, there hasn’t been any strong conversation that the league will one day give a franchise to the area.

If this scenario were to come to fruition down the road, Golden State Warriors All-Star forward Kevin Durant voiced that he would definitely like to help the efforts of making that happen by owning a team, according to Nick Friedell of ESPN.

“Hell yeah,” Durant told ESPN following Wednesday night’s 129-105 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. “Of course I would. No matter if it’s Seattle or any team, just to help young men grow. Or help men in the next phase of their lives as basketball players. Why not? Especially somebody who’s gone through it and been through just about everything as an NBA player, outside of getting traded, I’ve been through pretty much everything. I would love to give back to an organization, the knowledge that I’ve gained. So hell yeah I’d be interested.”

Durant has been quite vocal over the years about his interest in helping bring an NBA team back to the city where he began his career. He had been a part of the last team that played in Seattle before they were uprooted and moved to Oklahoma City.

The 30-year-old has a clear strong connection to the city due to how it helped form his NBA career. There hasn’t been any serious conversation about this possibility panning out. Although there has been a lingering discussion over the last several years.

It may ultimately be something that at some point will get plenty of traction toward working out. When that day comes, Durant will likely be at the forefront helping make that happen.
