Tiger Woods Favored to Win Masters
The first of golf’s four majors is just around the corner. The Masters is undoubtedly professional golf’s most prestigious event and this year’s tournament appears to be a wide open race as no one golfer has separated from the pack the first few weeks of 2019.
Odds makers have made Tiger Woods the new odds on favorite at +1100 just ahead of Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose all at +1200 to round out the top 5.
The next five include Brooks Koepka and Justin Thomas at +1400 and Bryson DeChambeau, Rickie Fowler and Jon Rahm at +1600 as the top 10 odds to win the title.
Woods enjoyed success once again in 2018 and odds makers have taken notice. The 43-year old bounced back last season, after three years of suffering through back surgeries and not knowing if he would ever compete again at the level he enjoyed since becoming a professional.
Woods ended his 2018 golf season with a victory at the final even of the FedEx Cup, the Tour Championship last September. Tiger ended 2018 as the No. 13 ranked player in the world
Not only are odds makers behind Woods, but a large amount of money has already been wagered on the star helping to bring his odds down to +1100.
Patrick Reed won last year’s Masters for the first major of his career and is +3300 to repeat as champion in April. Reed did not have that much success last season after winning at August but is sure to put up a good fight at defending his title.
Koepka won the U.S. Open and PGA Championship and Francisco Molinari won the British Open to round out the four majors last season. Koepka has three majors for his career.
Since 2015 nine golfers, including Molinari in 2018, have won a major for the first time in their careers.
The big question on the minds of all golf pundits and fans alike is if Woods can dig down and win his 15th major title against an array of young talented golfers that took center stage while he was fighting through his back problems.
