Stephen Curry Solves Shooting Woes with Contacts
Watch out, NBA, because Stephen Curry has figured out how to be even better at shooting.
Stephen Curry spoke to Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic about the issues he has had with his eyesight. Unbelievably, it seems that Stephen Curry has been playing with a handicap up until now.
Fans and pundits had noticed a downturn in Curry’s shooting productivity since the All-Star break. To remedy the problem, he started to wear contact lenses.
As Curry explains, he has always had issues with his eyes. The effect of wearing contacts has been transformative for him.

“I started wearing contacts,†Curry said. “No, I’m serious. It’s like the whole world has opened up.â€
“I had gotten so used to squinting for so long,†he added. “It was just normal.â€
The nature of Curry’s eye problem is degenerative. So he is at the phase of his life where the condition of his eyes is beginning to worsen. He has a genetic, degenerative condition called Keratoconus.
Thompson outlines Curry’s condition in greater detail in The Athletic.
“Technically, it’s an eye disease in which the cornea, normally a circle, progressively thins and takes on a cone shape.  This distortion has given Curry what is known as an astigmatism, which is a type of error in the way the light bends when entering the eye. It doesn’t distribute the light equally to the retina and leads to blurred or distorted vision. It’s a genetic condition Curry was probably born with, though scientists don’t know how it is acquired.”
