Brandon Woodruff Strains Oblique, Nationals Zimmerman Hurts Foot

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff will go a couple of weeks without playing. Woodruff will be placed on the team’s injured list after the All-Star hurler strained his left oblique. He was injured on Sunday while pitching against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

During the fourth inning, Woodruff grimaced in pain after throwing a pitch to Arizona’s Tim Locasto. As a result, Brewers trainer immediately raced to the mound with Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell.

Following a short discussion, Woodruff walked off the mound and into the dugout. Following the game, Counsell said his right-hander would undergo an MRI Monday. He then added that Woodruff would be placed on the team’s 10-day IL.

Junior Guerra replaced Brandon Woodruff with the game knotted at 4-4. At that point, Woodruff had given up six hits and four runs through three plus innings.

This season, Brandon Woodruff has been the best pitcher on the Brewers, earning a spot on his first National League All-Star team. He entered Sunday’s game against the Diamondbacks with an overall record of 11-3 and an ERA of 3.53.

First baseman Ryan Zimmerman of the Washington Nationals left Sunday’s game versus the Atlanta Braves following a foot injury suffered during the second inning after he had singled.

Zimmerman has already missed 53 games due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot this season. While running to first following his hit, he showed discomfort.

After Sunday’s game, which the Nationals lost 7-1, Zimmerman said, “Same foot, same thing.” The first baseman will have an MRI to determine how severe the injury is.

The 34-year old first baseman has played in just 33 games this season and is hitting .246 with three homers and 15 runs batted in.
