Draymond Green makes surprising move to sign four-year, $100 million deal with Warriors

Following the departure of Kevin Durant this offseason, the Golden State Warriors have spent their time re-stabilizing the roster. That now includes the front office locking in All-Star forward Draymond Green into a four-year, $100 million max extension, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

With free agency looming next summer, three-time NBA champion and All-Star forward Draymond Green has agreed to a four-year, $100 million maximum contract extension with the Golden State Warriors, agent Rich Paul of Klutch Sports told ESPN.

The new deal, which starts with the 2020-21 season, brings the total length and value of Green’s contract to five years, $118 million. Green’s extension will pay him $22.2 million, $24 million, $25.8 million and $27.6 million over the course of the deal.

Although Green was set to enter the final year of his deal, there was an expectation that the team was going to work out a long-term contract with him. He has been a core piece to the puzzle that has been crucial to them reaching five straight NBA Finals along with winning three NBA titles over that span.

The decision to hammer out a new deal keeps him in the fold alongside fellow All-Star guards Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry for the next several years. With these three in for the long haul, it should keep them in the championship window for the next few years as each of them are still in the prime of their respective careers.

The Warriors will likely lean on Curry, Draymond Green and offseason addition D’Angelo Russell for much of next year, with Thompson still recovering from a torn ACL.
