Rams star Todd Gurley isn’t a fan of Thursday night games

Over the past couple of seasons, the NFL has received some push back from prominent players about Thursday Night Football. The latest to voice their discontent is Los Angeles Rams star running back Todd Gurley. Although, he will have to put his feelings aside when he plays the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night.

Following Sunday’s 54-40 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Gurley bashed the entire idea of having to play that early in the week, according to Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.

“You know how I feel about Thursday night games,” Gurley said when asked how the short week would alter his preparation. “I feel like they are the dumbest thing ever.”

The Pro Bowler isn’t alone in this regard as the as many other players have voiced that type of sentiment. It’s a short week that doesn’t give the players a chance to be physically and mentally prepared for a game.

This also increases the likelihood of an injury, and it could directly impact Gurley. He’s already on a strict weekly plan now to manage the health of his knee. It may see his role in the game be limited even more so to keep him fresh for the long haul, which will impact the Rams to possibly not have one of their best playmakers on the field in a crucial game.

Ultimately, it’s the league’s decision and something that will come up in the next collective bargaining discussions in a couple of years.
