“It was necessary. Our 0-5 start is not just disappointing. We had much different expectations for the beginning of the season,” Allen said.
There was plenty of chatter surrounding this situation over the last few weeks, with the Redskins continuing to fall south. Gruden made several comments that alluded to his time with the team was nearing an end.
It’s a situation where the Redskins are already heading towards another losing season. As a result, all hope of reaching the playoffs is already out of the picture. The next focus lies with the organization’s handling of rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins.

Gruden elected to give him his first NFL appearance in Week 5 against the New York Giants. However, he struggled throwing three interceptions. The Redskins decided to give Colt McCoy the start against the New England Patriots. Although he put together just one scoring drive in the 33-7 loss at home.
Washington has remained mum on the direction that they will head at the quarterback position, but that should be sorted out in the coming days. Offensive coordinator Bill Callahan is taking over as the interim head coach with his first game being against the winless Miami Dolphins.
