Sam Darnold: We Will Get Better
New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold will take some time to get back to his best after battling with mono.
That’s if his Monday Night Football performance against the New England Patriots is anything to go by. In mitigation for Sam Darnold, it was a terrible Jets showing in which they lost 33 – 0.
Sam Darnold can’t be to blame for all of that, but by his own admission he was ‘seeing ghosts’ during the game.
He was heard saying that during the first half, when the Jets were 24 – 0 down to the undefeated Patriots.
Darnold wasn’t lying, either. He went 11-of-32 for a career low 86 yards. He was sacked ocne for a loss of 13 yards. As well as that, he equalled his career high four interceptions.

After his second game back from illness, Darnold said he found it ‘rough’ on the field.Â
“When I talk to the coaches, I just got to be straight up and, for me, I just got to see the field a lot better; that’s kind of what that means,” Darnold said.Â
“It was a rough night out there and obviously I got to be better and learn from the mistakes but we will get better.”
Running back Le’Veon Bell also had a disappointing night. He was restricted to 15 carries for 70 yards against the league’s best defence. After the game, he had words of encouragement for his struggling signal-caller.Â

“I think he learned a lot from tonight, sometimes you got to have that from a young player,” Bell said.Â
“I’ve had games like that and it made me better so hopefully that’s like a step for him to get better. … When you’re playing against teams like the Patriots and they’re like really the best at what they do defense-wise, he’s gon’ learn from that and he’s gon’ be a better player.”
