Philadelphia Eagles are in good position to shore up offense

The Philadelphia Eagles were essentially playing with you, me, two kids out of the stands and a kangaroo at receiver by the end of last year’s campaign.

Somehow, head coach Doug Pederson and quarterback Carson Wentz made it work. Philadelphia reached the NFC playoffs after winning the East with a 9-7 record. However, smart money says that for a repeat division title, there will need to be upgrades made.

While Desean Jackson is expected back and healthy for 2020, he’s also an ageing vet. The Eagles understand that without a serious infusion of talent on the outside, trouble looms.

Good news for general manager Howie Roseman? He has a chance to fix it all this offseason. The Philadelphia Eagles are likely paring ways with former first-round pick Nelson Agholor. The wide receiver is hitting unrestricted free agency as a result of four poor seasons in Philadelphia. The Eagles can also spend their first round choice (and potentially others as well) on a receiver in the best class for the position in a generation.

Picking 21st, Philadelphia is likely not going to hav a chance to take Henry Ruggs III, Jerry Jeudy or CeeDee Lamb. If any of them remain on the board, Philadelphia should run the card to the podium. If it’s Ruggs, just have him do it, it’ll be faster.

Even if those three aren’t available, scores of other high-quality names will be including Brandon Aiyuk (Arizona State), Denzel Mims (Baylor), Jalen Reagor (TCU), Justin Jefferson (LSU), Tee Higgins (Clemson) and more.

Roseman knows his offense needs an overhaul. The offensive line is good, with Andre Dillard expected to step in full-time for Jason Peters, who is hitting free agency. The tight end situation is fantastic, as Dallas Goedert and Zach Ertz might be the league’s best tandem. Factor in Wentz and an intriguing young running back in Miles Sanders, and the Eagles have talent. Yet the receivers don’t scare any opponent, allowing them to double elsewhere and creep towards the line of scrimmage.

While any of the aforementioned names would be good choices in the first round, Roseman should consider stretching the field as his top priority. The Eagles need to win deep, especially to take advantage of Wentz’s strong arm.

Philadelphia has a glaring weakness, but the draft gods have seen fit to provide it with an abundance of options to improve. Now the Eagles have to make the right pick, spend wisely in free agency and hope for health.
