Tre’Davious White Extension Number One Priority For Bills
The Buffalo Bills are hoping to avoid another Stephon Gilmore situation with star cornerback Tre’Davious White entering his fourth season.
In 2017, the Bills let Stephon Gilmore hit the free agent market. He signed with the New England Patriots. Three years later, he was the Defensive Player of the Year.
Tre’Davious White is a corner of equal caliber, and Bills GM Brandon Beane has said that extending his deal is the priority this offseason.
Beane, who was hired two months after Gilmore left, is aware that the intricacies of NFL deals make life difficult.

As a result, a large portion of Buffalo’s $82 million budget could go towards the wages of Tre’Davious White.
“Any guy that’s been in Tre’s situation that we want back and obviously Tre’ is a guy we love and we want back, you do look and try and find what the value is and it’s hard,” Beane said.Â
“It can sometimes be hard for agents too because they’re trying to look at what the market is today versus what’s it going to be in two years. Do they want to play it out? Do they want security now?â€

“Some guys are truly fine with playing it out and seeing where it goes in two years. Some guys want the security. Then it’s up to us to figure out where we see his market value, and you know is he the number one corner in the league? Or the number two corner in the league, etcetera? And that’s at whatever position you’re talking about so I think you have to take each player individually, case by case.”
The Bills could easily pick up White’s 5th year option, but the smart move would be to tie him down for longer. Coming off a season in which they made the playoffs, they are in a strong position.
