Flectcher Cox explains how he helped lure Darius Slay to the Eagles
Throughout much of the early portion of the offseason, there was a great deal of chatter around star cornerback Darius Slay’s future with the Detroit Lions. The entire matter was finally resolved with a trade to the Philadelphia Eagles. Before the deal was completed, Slay had a heart-to-heart with Eagles star defensive tackle Fletcher Cox to join the team. (H/T Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk)

“I just told him, ‘If you want to win, come to Philly,'” Cox said on a conference call with the team’s beat writers, via Reuben Frank of NBCSportsPhiladelphia.com. “I told him, ‘We win around here. We do things different around here,’ and I know what he can bring to our team. The character, the swagger, the hard work and the leadership, I know he can bring to the team. To have a guy like Darius will be really good for us.”
Cox and Slay have a long history together that dates back to their collegiate days at Mississippi State for two seasons. That bond likely helped make the transition that much easier for the star defensive back to join Philadelphia.

The Lions have had their struggles finding success throughout Slay’s tenure with the franchise. Meanwhile, the Eagles are a couple of years removed from winning a Super Bowl. Philadelphia provides him a breath of fresh air to be on a team that continually competes for the playoffs annually and has the track record to show for it.
Slay has a chance to prove he can be a long-term piece of the puzzle for the Eagles alongside Cox.
