NFL ‘not putting dates’ on league’s potential return

Like many of the other professional sports leagues in the United States, the NFL has been profoundly impacted by the concern over the coronavirus. The league has stayed on the track of getting the 2020 season started without a hitch.

A considerable part of that will be the offseason programs that will prep players for the upcoming campaign. With that in mind, NFL vice president of communications Brian McCarthy recently voiced that the league and the players union haven’t hammered out specific dates for training camp, according to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.

“We are not putting dates on a potential return,” McCarthy said, via Albert Breer of SI.com. “We have been and will continue working hand in hand with the NFLPA. We’ll base our decisions on the latest medical advice and in compliance with local and state guidelines.”

That shouldn’t come as much of a surprise as there is still much unknown about the virus. There are also certain things to be encouraged by. Head coaches are expected to be allowed back in the practice facilities next week.

Meanwhile, there are suggestions that the league could see minicamps start of the week of June 15 or June 27. The NFL hasn’t backed off the notion that they will play the 2020 season, which would only fuel the speculation that they plan to have minicamp next month.

There is still much that needs to be worked out first between the player’s union and league, but things are moving in the right direction.
