Dolphins rookie Tua Tagovailoa claims he’s ‘ready to go’

In the months leading up to the 2020 NFL draft, the Miami Dolphins hoped to snag former Alabama standout quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Miami was able to make that come to fruition by taking him with the fifth overall pick. Tagovailoa is still working his way back from a hip injury that required surgery, but he has voiced to Chris Bumbaca of USA TODAY Sports that he will be ready to go for the 2020 season.

“I’d say I’m ready to go,” Tagovailoa said, via Chris Bumbaca of USAToday.com. “It’s kind of those things where you start getting the itch to get back out on the field, to be able to compete. It’s going to be a new setting, so that’s what’s even more exciting.”

There is much time before the start of the 2020 season, but Tagovailoa has continued to recover. There isn’t a set timetable for him to be back in the fold, but the Dolphins are monitoring his situation closely since the draft. The team isn’t pressuring him into getting on the field right away to begin the season as it should see Ryan Fitzpatrick get the nod.

Miami would love to see Tagovailoa take the helm as the starter, but there is a long-term play with him. There is no need to rush him back in the fold before he’s physically ready to play, especially with him returning from an injury. There should be more clarity on this front in the coming weeks as the season draws closer.
