Bears name Mitchell Trubisky their starting QB to start 2020 NFL season

The Chicago Bears made a big move once the NFL offseason got underway by trading for veteran quarterback Nick Foles. This immediately put pressure on Mitchell Trubisky, but that might’ve been the right move with the young quarterback coming out on top in this quarterback competition.

After a lot of speculation about whether Foles would win the job, Trubisky took the challenge and has remained the starter heading into Week 1 for the Bears. Head coach Matt Nagy announced that Trubisky is the starter moving forward, via Jeff Dickerson of ESPN.

Mitchell Trubisky was officially named the Chicago Bears’ starting quarterback by coach Matt Nagy on Sunday.

Nagy stressed that Trubisky “won the job” over Nick Foles and it was not handed to him, adding that it was his call to make.

Following the official announcement that Trusbisky would remain the starting quarterback for the Bears, he reacted to the news by claiming that he wouldn’t be looking over his shoulder with Foles waiting for his opportunity in Chicago, via JJ Stankevitz of NBC Sports Chicago.

In Week 1, the Bears will take on the division rival Detroit Lions. Trubisky may not be looking over his shoulder after winning the starting job, but there’s no doubt he’ll be on a short leash with Foles one of the best success stories of a backup taking over and winning a Super Bowl.

Only time will tell if Trubisky can finally live up to expectations, but it’ll surely be a make-or-break year for the Bears quarterback.
