NFL Week 5 gambling: 5 best bets on favorites

Looking at all the odds and lines for the NFL Week 5 games, these five favorites make the most sense to believe in.

5. Carolina Panthers at Atlanta Falcons (-1.5)

This is Atlanta’s last stand. Another loss and it could all over for head coach Dan Quinn. The Falcons are 0-4 and banged up, but the Panthers are without Christian McCaffrey and have a litany of youngsters on defense. Carolina has been the better team this year, but not by much in totality. If the Falcons can simply hold onto a lead — maybe it isn’t so simple — they should finally get in the win column.

4. Minnesota Vikings at Seattle Seahawks (-7)

What’s not to like about Russell Wilson and the Seahawks here? Seattle is at home and getting an inferior team with an inferior quarterback. Furthermore, Seattle’s defense is terrible, but it’s coming off its best performance against the Miami Dolphins. Even if the unit is even slightly improved, it should be more than enough to give Seattle’s phenomenal offense breathing room against a horrific secondary.

3. New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys (-8.5)

Everybody has spent the week talking about how bad Dallas’ defense is. What they haven’t mentioned enough is how awful the Giants’ offense is. New York can’t score, and while the Cowboys will give up their share of. yardage and points, the offense should score plenty against a lacking New York defense. Look for the Cowboys to get into the 30s, while the Giants are lucky to hit 20.

2. Arizona Cardinals (-7) at New York Jets

This is a great value bet. The Cardinals are coming off losses to the Detroit Lions and Panthers. They are desperate get back on the right side of things. Meanwhile, the Jets have looked like a JV team and are without quarterback Sam Darnold who is dealing with a shoulder. injury. Arizona should be able to score early and often against New York’s porous defense, giving ample cushion to cover.

1. Las Vegas Raiders at Kansas City Chiefs (-11.5)

Derek Carr has never won at Arrowhead Stadium in his six starts there. He’s also never led the Raiders to more than 17 points in any of those affairs. Kansas City is coming off a bad offensive showing in which the unit only contributed 20 points in a win over the New England Patriots. The likelihood Patrick Mahomes and Co. struggles again is low. Also, the combined scores of last year’s games? 68-19.
