NFL Week 5 gambling: 5 best bets on underdogs
Taking a glance at the odds and lines for the NFL Week 5 contests, these five underdogs are intriguing plays to consider.
5. Jacksonville Jaguars (+5) at Houston Texans
Somebody explain why the Texans, who haven’t won a single game in 2020, are favored by five points. Yes, they finally fired Bill O’Brien and the city of Houston should be holding a parade that lasts 23 years. Still, the Texans have no business being favored by more than the typical field goal for the home team. Jacksonville is 1-3 and Gardner Minshew is a decent quarterback. It’s an obvious call.
4. Miami Dolphins (+9) at San Francisco 49ers
Jimmy Garoppolo and Raheem Mostert are both back in action this Sunday after multiple games away due to injury. The 49ers, after losing on Sunday night to the Philadelphia Eagles, are 2-2 and in desperate need of a win, at home, against a substandard Dolphins team. Considering how tight the NFC West is, a loss puts San Francisco in a brutal spot. Look for head coach Kyle Shanahan to pull out all the stops against a 1-3 Dolphins team traveling cross-country.

3. Los Angeles Chargers (+7.5) at New Orleans Saints
This should be one of the easier covers of the week. New Orleans is 2-2 and Drew Brees is essentially Derek Carr at this point. The Saints are also banged up, even if star receiver Michael Thomas makes his first appearance since Week 1.
Additionally, the Chargers have been really tough despite their 1-3 record, barely losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs. Finally, Justin Herbert can play. Herbert looks like a star in the making, and has the goods to keep Los Angeles within a touchdown.
2. Cleveland Browns (+1.5) vs. Indianapolis Colts
Interesting game here. The Browns are 3-1, at home, and a slight underdog against the Colts, who are also 3-1. Now, Indianapolis has the highest-rated defense in many regards so far this season, but have played the New York Jets, Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings and Jaguars. Not exactly a powerhouse quartet of offenses. Does Cleveland find a way to expose this group? With Darius Leonard out, take your chances.

1. Cincinnati Bengals (+13) at Baltimore Ravens
This is all about the number. Baltimore is going to win, but Lamar Jackson missed two days of practice. There are approximately 42 players on the Ravens’ injury list. Cincinnati has been tough this year, yet to be blown out and sitting at 1-2-1. Joe Burrow is for real, his weapons are legit, and the Bengals cover 13 points in Charm City.
