Super Bowl LV On Course To Be Played In Front of 20% Capacity
The NFL is confident that Super Bowl LV can be played with fans in attendance, although capacity will be reduced.
The Feb 7 showpiece will be played at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, which has a capacity of 65,000. With temporary seating, it could potentially hold up to 75,000.
Currently, the NFL thinks it will be capable of hosting 20% capacity for the Super Bowl. Fans will attend in ‘pods’, six feet apart, and masks will be mandatory.Â
19 teams have already had fans in attendance for regular season games this year. The league has let teams decide, in conjunction with local authorities, whether to allow fans to watch games.Â

“The safety of the public, attendees, players and personnel continues to be our foremost priority. We are working on a host of Super Bowl plans, including gameday, in conjunction with the host committee and the appropriate local and county public health and government officials,” the NFL said in a statement.
“There is no set capacity figure at this time as we continue to monitor the ongoing pandemic with more than three months to go before the Super Bowl on February 7. There have been 19 teams that have already or have been authorized by public authorities to host regular season games. The average has been around 20 percent with fans seated in pods and everyone wearing face coverings. Among the scenarios we are exploring is a capacity of around that figure but we anticipate it could grow as we get closer to the game.”

Following the league’s first outbreaks, the NFL is keeping the 17 week schedule intact. However, the Super Bowl could be pushed back by up to four weeks if necessary. So far, the league is not considering adding an 18th week to the season.
