NFL Week 8 schedule: 5 favorites to bet on this weekend
On the NFL Week 8 slate, look for these five favorites to cover their spread against overmatched and overwhelmed opponents.
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-10.5) at New York Giants
It’s a big spread, especially for a favorite on the road, but this appears a slam dunk. Tampa Bay has been rolling recently, beating the previous undefeated Green Bay Packers 38-10 before smoking the Las Vegas Raiders in Sin City, 45-20. The Giants are 1-6 and haven’t been able to block for the turnover-prone Daniel Jones. It all equals a very long day for New York.

4. Los Angeles Chargers (-3) at Denver Broncos
Another road favorite, and another smart play here. Why? The mismatch at quarterback is significant with Justin Herbert going against Drew Lock. Also, Denver has one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL, and it gets to go against Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram on the edges, with Jerry Tillery causing problems on the interior. If Denver falls behind by a few scores, it’s going to be a long day for Lock.
3. Kansas City Chiefs (-19.5) vs. New York Jets
This is the biggest line since 2012, and yet it’s still the wise move to swallow the points. New York is 0-7 and has only covered the spread once, albeit last week against the Buffalo Bills at MetLife Stadium. With due respect to the Bills, they aren’t the Chiefs, and this one is at Arrowhead Stadium. Kansas City is 6-1 and has the same record with the spread. Look for Kansas City to jump out to a huge lead before allowing the defense — one of the league’s best units — to clamp down.

2. Carolina Panthers (-2) vs. Atlanta Falcons
Why not take Carolina here? This is a short week and a road game for the Falcons, who somehow managed to blow another game in comical fashion on Sunday. Christian McCaffrey is likely back on Thursday night, and he gives Carolina just one more way to handle a Falcons team with one win on the season.
1. Green Bay Packers (-7) vs. Minnesota Vikings
Why are the Packers, who are 5-1, only laying a touchdown against the one-win Vikings? This is the same team Green Bay pounded in Week 1 at Minnesota, and now the Vikings are without much hope and defensive end Yannick Ngakoue, who was dealt last week to the Baltimore Ravens. The Packers are at home, playing well and motivated to win as the Chicago Bears are only a half-game back in the NFC North. Look for a blowout.
