Stephen Curry Thinks Warriors Can Defy Expectations

Due to the capricious short termism of elite sport, the Golden State Warriors almost feel like an irrelevance. Stephen Curry wants to change that next season.

It was only one year ago when the Warriors were winning the NBA championship, their 5th in a row. One bad year, and you could be forgiven for thinking the dynasty has crumbled.

There is a big rebuilding job to be undertaken in San Francisco. This will be all the more arduous due to the fact that Klay Thompson is out for the year with an achilles injury.

However, Stephen Curry doesn’t think the team he has played for since 2009 should be written off this year.

“I know you guys can analyze the salary-cap sheet and look at what decisions might be in the future, but for what we have right now, I love where we’re at,” said Stephen Curry. 

“I love the fact that we have enough pieces, enough talent and enough experience to surprise a lot of people this year and try to compete at the top of the West, see what happens.”

His words aren’t mere idle cheerleading, either. Curry has genuine love for the Golden State franchise. As he and the team approach the Dec 21 deadline to decide on his contract extension, he reiterated his desire to retire a Warrior.

“That’s a huge goal for sure,” Curry said. 

“It’s an elite club of guys that you look at that have played with the same organization and been successful and achieved greatness in that respect. So that would be an awesome accomplishment.”

“We want to be competitive, we want to be in a situation where we’re competing for championships every single year. I want to be a part of that. And that’s the goal.”
