Broncos must explore Deshaun Watson trade
The Denver Broncos have to make ample calls to the Houston Texans in the pursuit of disgruntled, superstar quarterback Deshaun Watson.
Time for the Denver Broncos to kick off their offseason with a considerable bang.
On Friday, word broke of potential interest from Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson in being traded to the Broncos. This is especially notable considering Watson, 25, has a full no-trade clause.
The 2020 passing champ has long been upset with Houston, something which has boiled over in the past few months. Watson is now looking for a fresh start. If Denver has a chance providing it for him, it’s time for new general manager George Paton to get moving.

For the Broncos, the chance to acquire Watson is a life raft from heaven.
Denver is in a division with the Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes, along with an up-and-comer in Justin Herbert — the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year — with the Los Angeles Chargers. Drew Lock has shown promise in his first two years, but there have been more tough times than good. Upgrading Lock into Watson would be a game-changer for Denver. The franchise has been looking for a quarterback since Peyton Manning retired in the aftermath of Super Bowl 50.
Paton could create an enticing package for the Texans, centered around multiple first-round picks. Denver would also likely include Lock, who gives Houston either a bridge to the future or a young quarterback to mold and eventually build around. Furthermore, the Broncos have some nice young pieces on both sides of the ball, led by receivers Courtland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy, and edge rusher Bradley Chubb.

If Paton were to offer two first-round choices, Lock and Chubb, it would be a strong pitch to Houston general manager Nick Caserio and Executive Vice President of Football Operations Jack Easterby. Is that equal value for one of the league’s best quarterbacks on a long-term deal? It shouldn’t be, but with Watson begging Houston to move on and the Texans in the midst of a full-scale relaunch, such an offer should move the needle.
Denver is without hope until the quarterback position is settled with a top-notch answer. Watson provides that, and in today’s NFL, a top-flight fill at said position is worth almost any price.
