Zion Williamson teased the prospect of being a participant in the annual event setting the Twitterverse on fire. One player who could have made an impact, New Orleans Pelicans young star Zion Williamson, will not participate in the Slam Dunk Contest, sources told Yahoo Sports on Tuesday.
Although Williamson won’t be dunking on the main stage during halftime of the NBA All-Star Game, he will be suiting up for the game along with the best of the best that the league has to offer. The second-year pro is having another solid season in the Big Easy while playing alongside Brandon Ingram.

In 33 games this season, Williamson averaged 25.5 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. Meanwhile, he’s been shooting an impressive 61.4 percent from the floor.
Williamson is quickly turning into one of the league’s biggest star attractions. He’s been able to live up to the hype coming out of Duke University. Although his play on the floor continues to improve, it remains to be seen whether he’ll ever participate in the Slam Dunk Contest, which would parallel LeBron James’ decision never to compete in the annual event.
