2021 NFL Draft: 5 teams that should take a receiver

The 2021 NFL Draft is loaded with receiver prospects, and these five teams should be taking one in the first round come April 29.

5. Chicago Bears

If the Bears aren’t going to take a quarterback in the 2021  NFL Draft — and it seems highly unlikely without a major trade-up — they need to help Andy Dalton. Allen Robinson is a top-tier talent but what else is there? Chicago will have some receivers who are realistic options here including Elijah Moore of Ole Miss, Kadarius Toney from Florida and Purdue’s Rondale Moore. Any would be a nice upgrade on the perimeter in head coach Matt Nagy’s offense, which has been lackluster in recent campaigns.

4. Detroit Lions

Admittedly, the Lions should consider every avenue here. Frankly, it should come down to best player available for the rebuilding effort. However, if LSU’s Ja’Marr Chase or either of Alabama’s Jaylen Waddle or DeVonta Smith are around, they have to be considered. The Lions brought in quarterback Jared Goff this offseason before losing Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones to free agency. Detroit has to give Goff someone on the outside, and any of those three would be intriguing.

3. Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia was originally picking at No. 6 overall but traded back six spots to get an extra ’22 first-round pick. The Eagles aren’t going to get Chase, but Smith and Waddle are firmly in play here. After going through a miserable campaign last year, general manager Howie Roseman needs to give second-year quarterback Jalen Hurts someone to work with on the outside. If he doesn’t, its impossible to evaluate the youngster correctly.

2. Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins have two first-round choices, but should use the No. 6 overall pick to make a big move here. Tua Tagovailoa needs to be better in his sophomore campaign, and he could get major boost with either Chase, Smith or Waddle here. Heck, if Florida Gators tight end Kyle Pitts is still around, he would be an incredible find as well. Miami knows it needs to improve offensively, and getting a top athlete at sixth is the smart move.

1. Green Bay Packers

It’s time. The Packers should have taken a playmaker last year in the first round but traded up to take a backup for MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers. This time around, general manager Brian Gutekunst has potential options in Toney, Elijah Moore, Rashod Bateman and Rondale Moore. If any of them are on the board, they should get top billing in Green Bay’s war room.
