Dolphins rookie Jaylen Waddle calls Tua Tagovailoa ‘a natural leader’
The Miami Dolphins are moving forward with second-year quarterback Tua Tagovailoa as their clear-cut starter.
Miami continues to voice their utmost confidence in his ability to lead the franchise forward. Rookie Jaylen Waddle further backed his former Alabama teammate by calling him a “natural leader.”
“He is just a natural leader. Natural-born learn,” Waddle said, via Safid Deen of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. “He’s confident. He knows what to do and is smart. Everything you want a leader to do Tua presents.”

Waddle holds plenty of experience playing with Tagovailoa dating back to their collegiate days. He stepped into high-pressure moments and performed at a high level. There remain questions concerning his development, but he will have the opportunity to take the next step in 2021.
Tagovailoa showed promise last year as he finished with 1,814 passing yards with 11 touchdowns to five interceptions while starting nine games. His production didn’t exactly move the needle, but he stayed at a steady pace.

The Dolphins are hoping he can become a more significant factor with his arm after an entire offseason getting further acclimated with the offensive game plan. The front office added more offensive weapons around him, such as Waddle, to create more plays down the field.
Last season, Tagovailoa didn’t test opposing secondaries as much down the field. The hope is that he can take greater command of the offense to allow for an expanded playbook. Only time will tell if he can take the next step forward into becoming the franchise quarterback.
