Adam Vinatieri ‘May Never Be Matched’

Legendary kicker Adam Vinatieri announced his retirement from the NFL last week, marking the end of a 24-year career.

Adam Vinatieri is the NFL’s all-time leading scorer. He also retires with a host of other records and accolades to his name.

Vinatieri was a part of countless historic NFL moments over the course of his two and a half decade career. He will be fondly remembered for his game winner in the snow against Oakland in 2001. As well as that, he made Super-Bowl winning field goals in SBXXXVI and XXXVII.

Adam Vinatieri made 29 game winning kicks in his career. No other kicker has more Super Bowl rings than his four.

The 48 year old was selected to the Pro Bowl and All-Pro three times each. He is the third oldest player to appear in an NFL game and has scored in 47 different stadiums.

Vinatieri played in six AFC Championship Games, five Super Bowls and a record 397 games including the playoffs.He played in 365 regular season games, second only to Morten Andersen with 382.

“Adam Vinatieri is the greatest kicker of all-time who made the greatest kick of all-time in the 2001 divisional playoffs,” Pats head coach Bill Belichick said in a statement.

“His consistency, mental toughness and performance under pressure was legendary. I am honored to have coached Adam, going all the way back to his rookie year in 1996 and through some of the most special moments in Patriots and league history. Adam is in the rarest of echelons of athletes whose career accomplishments may never be matched.”

Vinatieri’s career began to wind down after dealing with a long term knee injury in 2019. The Colts stuck with him through degrading performances. He didn’t play at all last year after knee surgery.
