5 throwback uniforms the NFL must bring back in 2022

With the NFL doing away with its one-shell helmet rule, the league is opening up great possibilities for throwback uniforms in 2022.

5. Seattle Seahawks

If we don’t g et the Dave Krieg-era Seahawks uniforms, everyone has a right to lose their minds. The Seahawks went to this monochrome blue look over the last 15 years, and it’s a disgrace to society. The logo of the actual bird hasn’t changed on the helmet (thankfully) but everything else has. While we know those old days of the silver helmets are gone, let’s bring them back a time or two (or 17) next season.

4. New England Patriots

Pat Patriot makes his return! After years of being cast aside with the helmet rules, the Patriots can finally go back to one of the more iconic logos the league has ever seen. Ultimately, it’s a Revolutionary War solider snapping a football, but it makes one think about the old days of the American Football League, with Nick Buoniconti and Gino Cappelletti. Another uniform that should be brought back full time, but at least give us a couple looks at the old duds.

3. Denver Broncos

The Broncos wore a litany of different looks in the 1960s (including a famously hideous yellow and brown number), but finally hit their stride in the late ’60s. For almost 30 years, Denver football was synonymous with the light blue helmets, a horse charging through the “D” and orange jerseys at home. Then, in 1997, they were scrapped for a uniform that while not terrible, certainly doesn’t live uptown the old standard. It’ll be a treat getting to see Von Miller in these bad boys a time or two.

2. Tennessee Titans/Houston Oilers

Luv Ya Blue is back! The Houston Oilers had one of the league’s best uniforms throughout the 1970s, ’80s and ’90s before the team relocated and moved to Tennessee. While the Titans have nice uniforms, they don’t do their predecessors any justice. Getting to see the oil rig on those clean white helmets will be a real treat, along with the striped blue pants. Again, one of the best looks pro sports has ever given us.

1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

What is there to say? Who doesn’t want to see Tom Brady in the creamsicles the final few year(s) of his career? The Bucs understandably got rid of them before the 1997 season after two decades of being epic losers, but no uniform — and certainly helmet — is missed more in football circles than Bucco Bruce and Co.
