Colts QB Carson Wentz out indefinitely with foot injury
The Indianapolis Colts will head into the 2021 NFL season as one of the most promising teams in the AFC. Although Philip Rivers chose to retire after only one season with the team, the Colts were able to bounce back quickly with the addition of Carson Wentz through a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Unfortunately, it appears Wentz’s injuries continue to hold him back from reaching his true potential in the NFL. Wentz is already dealing with an injury that will reportedly keep him out indefinitely, according to ESPN.
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Carson Wentz is out indefinitely as he undergoes further testing for a foot injury that he suffered at the end of Thursday’s practice, sources told ESPN.
Wentz felt a “twinge in his foot” when he rolled out and planted to throw late in the practice.
After things began to fall apart in Philadelphia with Jalen Hurts taking over as the starting quarterback, Wentz wanted out, and reuniting with Frank Reich seemed to be the logical choice with Rivers retiring from the NFL.
Despite early reports of Wentz fitting in well in Indianapolis and looking good on the field, this injury sets him back to square one with an uncertain future ahead. Obviously, it’s early in the training camp process for Indianapolis, but Wentz going down right away is exactly what the team likely feared considering his history.
With Wentz once again on the mend, the Colts may have to look to second-year quarterback Jacob Eason to shoulder the load, which is not ideal due to his limited experience.
