Michael Pittman reacts to Colts signing Philip Rivers

With the Indianapolis Colts dealing with injuries under center, retired quarterback Philip Rivers is back after signing with the team.

Rivers last played with the Colts in the 2020 season, during which he guided the franchise to an 11-5 record and a wildcard playoff round appearance.

If he starts a game this season, he would become only the fifth quarterback in NFL history to achieve that feat, joining Tom Brady, Warren Moon, Steve DeBerg, and Vinny Testaverde to start a game at age 44 or older.

It comes one day after his 44th birthday, making him the oldest active player in the league. His return caught the league by surprise, but it has provided the Colts with a new burst of energy ahead of their Week 15 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.

“At first, I did think it was kind of funny, but then I really sat there and thought about it, and I was like, ‘You know what, Philip really invented this offense. This is the offense that he’s ran,'” Michael Pittman Jr. said via Colts.com. “And if we were gonna go get a guy, I think he’s him.”

The Colts hope Rivers can step in and provide the spark the team has been missing in recent weeks.

Following a hot start to the season, Indianapolis has dropped its last three straight games, including four out of its last five contests.

Rivers is stepping into uncharted territory as he hasn’t played a game in nearly five years. Meanwhile, the Colts are set to face one of the league’s best defenses, which could present another huge insurmountable hurdle.
