NFL Week 2 schedule: Making a case for each underdog

We’re moving onto the NFL Week 2 schedule and looking at how each underdog can cover the spread and maybe win outright.

New York Giants at Washington Football Team (-3.5)

The Giants get a backup quarterback in Taylor Heinicke for Washington in a must-win game.

Buffalo Bills (-3.5) at Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins are at home and coming off a solid win over the Patriots. This line is disrespectful of a team which won 10 games last year with less talent.

Cincinnati Bengals at Chicago Bears (-3)

The Bengals have the better quarterback with better weapons, and arguably a better pass rush.

Denver Broncos (-6) at Jacksonville Jaguars

Trevor Lawrence and Urban Meyer can’t be worse than last week, right?

Houston Texans at Cleveland Browns (-12.5)

The Texans won’t win, but Tyrod Taylor will make some plays and could cover the large spread with his weaponry.

Los Angeles Rams (-4) at Indianapolis Colts

It’s a huge week for the Colts, who were embarrassed at home by the Seahawks on Sunday. They need to make a statement here and have the talent to do so.

Las Vegas Raiders at Pittsburgh Steelers (-5.5)

The Raiders have weapons around Derek Carr. If the edge rushers can get to Ben Roethlisberger, this will be a close game.

New England Patriots (-6) at New York Jets

Zach Wilson needs to Mae some plays with Corey Davis, and the defense has to force a few turnovers from fellow rookie quarterback Mac Jones.

New Orleans Saints (-3.5) at Carolina Panthers

Carolina can move the ball in the air and on the ground. It’s all about the defense making a few plays to stymie Jameis Winston.

San Francisco 49ers (-3.5) at Philadelphia Eagles

Are the Eagles for real? If Jalen Hurts puts on another show, they can absolutely cover and perhaps beat a talented 49ers squad.

Atlanta Falcons at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-12.5)

Atlanta needs a terrific day from Matt Ryan to keep this close, along with some mistakes by the Buccaneers’ offense in the red zone, turning touchdowns to field goals.

Minnesota Vikings at Arizona Cardinals (-4.5)

The Vikings are an enigmatic team, and that’s a good thing here. Minnesota desperately needs to win, and the combo of Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen should feast on Arizona’s secondary.

Dallas Cowboys at Los Angeles Chargers (-3)

The Cowboys can outscore the Chargers, especially with an extra half-week to prepare. Plus, this will feel like a home game.

Tennessee Titans at Seattle Seahawks (-5.5)

The Titans can’t play worse than they did Week 1. Tennessee has great weapons, and Seattle’s secondary is ripe.

Kansas City Chiefs (-3.5) at Baltimore Ravens

Baltimore is up against it, but the Ravens have ample talent on both sides of the ball and desperation after falling to the Raiders on Monday night.

Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers (-10.5)

The Lions showed a ton of fight in their comeback against the 49ers. If they bring that same heart, they can cover in a tough spot this week.
