NFL Week 2 notes and observations: Ravens beat Chiefs
The NFL Week 2 slate gave us some wild games, but none more so than the Baltimore Ravens rallying to stun the Kansas City Chiefs.Â
– The Baltimore Ravens must feel as though they won the Super Bowl. On Sunday, the host Ravens were down a bevy of starters against a Chiefs team they hadn’t beaten in three tries with Patrick Mahomes at the helm. Somehow, despite trailing by 11 points in the second half, Baltimore rallied for a wild 36-35 win, topped off by Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire fumbling with Kansas City in field goal range.

– It’s hard to think the NFC East is going to be much better than it was a year ago. The Dallas Cowboys appear the best of the bunch, winning 20-17 over the Los Angeles Chargers on a 56-yard field goal by kicker Greg Zuerlein at the gun. Dallas is 1-1 and now finally comes home for a Monday night date with the Philadelphia Eagles, who lost 17-11 in a listless performance at home against the San Francisco 49ers.
– In the NFC West, the only loser was the Seattle Seahawks. Despite leading 24-9 at home against the Tennessee Titans, head coach Pete Carroll’s squad couldn’t shut the door, allowing 21 points in the second half before losing on a field goal in overtime. Meanwhile, the other three teams all won, with the most impressive showing coming from the Los Angeles Rams, who went on the road and beat the Indianapolis Colts by a 27-24 count.

– Injuries began to pile up for quarterbacks on Sunday. The Miami Dolphins saw Tua Tagovailoa carted off with a rib injury, while Tyrod Taylor of the Houston Texans left at halftime with a balky hamstring. The Colts also lost Carson Wentz late to a sprained ankle. While it’s unclear how long those men will be out moving forward — if at all — it’s unsettling for a trio of AFC teams trying to stay afloat.
– The Buffalo Bills evened their record at 1-1 with a thorough beating of the Dolphins, winning 35-0. However, all isn’t right with the Bills. After a breakout year in 2020, fourth-year quarterback Josh Allen doesn’t look the same. After a tough outing in a 23-16 loss Week 1 to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Allen was a mere 17-of-33 for 179 yards, averaging 5.4 yards per attempt with two touchdowns and an interception. If Buffalo is going to win its first Super Bowl, Allen must get back to being the All-Pro we saw a year ago.
