Kyrie Irving Vaccination Status Still ‘Up In The Air’
The Nets are coming to terms with the idea of All-Star Kyrie Irving as a part time player next season.
New York City’s Covid-19 regulations only allow players with at least one vaccine injection to practice and play. Irving’s continued reluctance to get a vaccine means he would be unable to practise or play at home.
Kevin Durant says he still sees Kyrie Irving in the picture for next season, although nobody really knows.
“I don’t know, I can’t answer that,” head coach Steve Nash told reporters. “As it stands now, no. So we’ll see what happens. I don’t really want to speculate on something that is just currently up in the air.”

Kevin Durant has an understandable stake in whether Kyrie Irving is available to play the full season. He, along with Harden and Irving have the potential to be a title-winning Big 3.
If Irving is only available half the time, the current Nets project may fail.Â
“I’m envisioning Kyrie being a part of our team,” Durant said. “Maybe I’m just naïve, but that is just how I feel. But I think everybody here has that confidence in themselves, in our group, that if we keep building, we can do something special.
“I mean he’s a special player so it is going to be hard to duplicate what he brings,” Durant added. “But professional sports are about the next man up mentality so we are looking forward to guys stepping up and filling in that role as best as they can.”

“I want him a part of this group,” Durant said. “He’s a special player. We want him a part of this group. But a lot of stuff is out of our control and we will let him figure that out for himself. It doesn’t mean that I will say that I don’t want him on the team. He’s a huge part of what we do but guys got to step up in his absence and be who they are and move forward.”
