NFL Week 13 odds: 5 best bets on underdogs
Looking over the NFL Week 13 odds, there are plenty of live underdogs, but these five stand out above the rest.
5. Detroit Lions (+7.5) vs. Minnesota Vikings
Minnesota should win this game by 20 points, but this is Minnesota. The same team that almost lost the Lions at home earlier in the year. The same team that lost at home to Cooper Rush on Sunday Night Football a month ago. The same team that consistently makes every game close, because the coaching is suspect and the quarterback often makes enough mental errors to keep opponents in games. This isn’t about betting the Lions to play well, it’s betting the Vikings to be the Vikings.

4. Buffalo Bills (-2.5) vs. New England Patriots
Buffalo needs to win this game. The Patriots would love to win it because it essentially puts them in a commanding position for the AFC East crown, but they get to host the rematch on Dec. 26. For the Bills, this is a game where should they lose, they drop down to 7-5 and it becomes a real question of even making the playoffs, especially with a trip to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on deck. Look for Buffalo to play strong, inspired football in front of a rowdy crowd.
3. Houston Texans (+10) vs. Indianapolis Colts
This is all about the number. Houston isn’t good, but quarterback Tyrod Taylor will give it a shot to stay in the game. Meanwhile, the Colts are good but inconsistent. Three weeks ago, they needed to hold on at home against a horrid Jacksonville Jaguars team. The following week, they destroyed the Bills in Buffalo. Indy is likely going to win, but there’s ample opportunity for Houston to cover the spread at home.

2. Pittsburgh Steelers (+4.5) at Baltimore Ravens
These games are always close. Always. The Steelers getting 4.5 points at home is insane. Pittsburgh isn’t good at 5-5-1, but it is still in the playoff hunt with a win. Also, the Ravens might own the AFC’s top record at 8-3, but there’s a strong, strong argument to be made they should truthfully be under .500. Baltimore has been extremely fortunate all year, and should the Steelers play a solid game, they not only can cover but win outright.
1. Washington Football Team (+1) at Las Vegas Raiders
This is basically a pick’em, and the Raiders haven’t been the better team recently between these two. Las Vegas won an impressive victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving but lost three straight before that. Washington has won three consecutive games and sits in an NFC wild card position. The Football Team is simply a better squad.
