Saints, New Orleans native Tyrann Mathieu agree to a contract
After the Kansas City Chiefs elected to head in another direction in free agency, Pro Bowl safety Tyrann Mathieu sat in the open market without a sense of direction. Mathieu has secured his next NFL home after agreeing to a deal with the New Orleans Saints, according to Mike Triplett of ESPN.
A source confirmed to ESPN that the New Orleans Saints have agreed to a contract with the All-Pro safety, who grew up in New Orleans and starred at LSU. Details of the agreement were not immediately available.

The 29-year-old had previously spoken and met with the Saints in April, but no agreement was reached. He voiced a strong interest in potentially playing in New Orleans. He also talked to the Philadelphia Eagles, but nothing progressed toward a contract.
There were also reports that he had interest from the Los Angeles Rams. With the 2022 NFL draft concluded, it gave the Saints better clarity concerning their roster. Mathieu remains one of the game’s top safeties that will bring much-needed stability to New Orleans.
The move is a homecoming for him as he was born and raised in the city and played at LSU. In his nine seasons, he has earned three Pro Bowl nods, and three first-team All-Pro selections, and recorded 26 interceptions.

The Saints’ secondary has undergone much change this offseason, losing their starting safeties Marcus Williams to the Baltimore Ravens and Malcolm Jenkins to retirement.
Mathieu is expected to play alongside former New York Jets safety Marcus Maye.
