Bengals star Joe Burrow ‘plenty engaged’ despite being sidelined
After reaching the Super Bowl for the first time in over three decades, the Cincinnati Bengals are heading into the 2022 season with high expectations.
Much of that lies on the shoulders of star quarterback Joe Burrow. Last year, he quickly emerged as one of the league’s top talents under center. However, Burrow is currently sidelined indefinitely due to an appendectomy.

Head coach Zac Taylor voiced that he currently doesn’t have a timetable for the star quarterback’s return. Despite that, Burrow is still involved in team meetings and remains around while he recovers from the surgery.
“He’s been plenty engaged,” Taylor said via ESPN. “I don’t think we need that to stimulate him. He does a pretty good job of that.”
Burrow doesn’t have an exact timeline for his return. Although there doesn’t appear to be any concern that he won’t be ready to go for the start of the 2022 campaign. There still remains over a month before Week 1 action.
The bigger storyline that remains around Burrow is his contract situation, as he has played enough to push forward extension discussions.

With several top quarterbacks recently earning massive paydays, it’s brought into question when he will receive his next lucrative deal. He is entering the third year of his four-year, $36.1 million rookie deal. The Bengals will certainly pick up the fifth-year option if it gets to that point.
There isn’t any urgency to get that contract done right away, but with Kyler Murray recently getting an extension with two years still left in his deal, it could speed up that time frame.
