NFL Week 9 2022: A case for each underdog
Looking at the NFL Week 9 schedule and odds, we roll through the contests and reason how each underdog can cover their spreads.
Philadelphia Eagles (-14) at Houston Texans
Short week for the Eagles, going on the road and in a letdown situation. That’s the case for Houston.
Los Angeles Chargers (-3) at Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons are going to run the ball for days against the beat-up Chargers, who are without Mike Williams, Rashawn Slater, Joey Bosa, J.C. Jackson and others.
Miami Dolphins (-5) at Chicago Bears
The Dolphins are the better team, but their defense has been awful throughout the season. Chicago needs to run the ball and hit the occasional shot play.
Carolina Panthers at Cincinnati Bengals (-7.5)
Cincinnati is on a short week and dealing with serious injuries. Don’t underestimate P.J. Walker keeping this game within a score.

Green Bay Packers (-3) at Detroit Lions
The Lions are an offensive juggernaut at home. The Packers are going to score some against Detroit’s defense, but Green Bay is very limited. Could come down to the end.
Indianapolis Colts at New England Patriots (-5.5)
New England doesn’t have the offensive talent to pull away from anybody. The Colts will hang around with their defense.
Buffalo Bills (-13) at New York Jets
Huge number, and the Jets are coming off an ugly performance. New York’s defense is good enough to slow Buffalo down.
Minnesota Vikings (-3.5) at Washington Commanders
Washington has won three straight, playing with a completely different energy over the last two weeks with backup quarterback Taylor Heinicke inserted.
Las Vegas Raiders (-1.5) at Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars are at home, playing an early game against a team coming across the country. Also, the Raiders haven’t gotten much from their weapons save Josh Jacobs this season.

Seattle Seahawks at Arizona Cardinals (-2)
Why are the Seahawks underdogs here? They’re the flat-out better team.
Los Angeles Rams at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-3)
The Bucs are a mess. Los Angeles should be able to block a front without Akiem Hicks and Shaq Barrett, giving Matthew Stafford time to throw.
Tennessee Titans at Kansas City Chiefs (-12.5)
Derrick Henry should have a big game against the Chiefs. Tennessee needs to run the ball, stay ahead of the sticks and keep Patrick Mahomes off the field.
Baltimore Ravens (-3) at New Orleans Saints
New Orleans is one of the toughest places to play, and the defense is legit coming off a shutout. The Ravens are better overall, but the Saints can cause problems for Lamar Jackson and Co.
