Russell Wilson denies report he wanted Seahawks’ Pete Carroll, John Schneider fired
Since star quarterback Russell Wilson left the Seattle Seahawks, there remains plenty of storylines around his time with the franchise.
Much of which centers on the relationship between Russell Wilson and longtime head coach Pete Carroll. One of the lingering notions that remain is that the 34-year-old reportedly wanted Carroll fired.
It didn’t take long for Wilson to shoot down that chatter by voicing on Twitter that wasn’t the case between him and his former head coach.

“I love Pete and he was a father figure to me and John believed in me and drafted me as well,” Wilson tweeted. “I never wanted them fired. All any of us wanted was to win. l’ll always have respect for them and love for Seattle.”
Regardless of Wilson’s statement, there were previous reports that he had a tense relationship with Carroll over their 10 seasons together in Seattle. There was often chatter about how much freedom Wilson had in the offense to throw the ball and move away from the run-first game plan approach.

Despite that noise, the Seahawks didn’t have any traction toward considering firing Carroll. Instead, the franchise elected to trade the nine-time Pro Bowler to alleviate the situation.
Wilson is now locked into a five-year, $242.5 million extension with the Broncos that runs through the 2028 season. Denver is hoping the arrival of new head coach Sean Payton will help their star quarterback to finally get back on track toward leading the franchise to sustained success and Super Bowl contention.
