Pat Surtain II: ‘I’ve Got Some Work To Do’
Denver Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain II says he failed to live up to his standards in 2023.
Pat Surtain II has 7 interceptions, 36 passes defended an 187 tackles in 50 NFL games played. He rose to prominence in 2022, when he made the Pro Bowl and the All-Pro.
Last season, Pat Surtain II made the Pro Bowl but missed the All-Pro. It wasn’t the only thing that wasn’t ideal about last season.

The Broncos finished 27th in points allowed and 28th in yards allowed during the 8th year of their playoff drought. Those figures represented their worst since 2010.
Surtain’s defensive grade of 69.0 in 2023 is a 17.8 drop-off from 2022. Last season, he had a career-worst 60.2 completion rate. As well as that, he gave away six penalties in coverage – compared with five combined in his previous two seasons.
“I wouldn’t necessarily say I got snubbed (by the All-Pro),” Surtain said Friday on The Jim Rome Show. “I just think there’s a point in time where you’ve got to ask yourself, was it your standard that you wanted to put out there? I don’t think it was the year I wanted to have as far as the standard I set for myself.”

“I know I’ve got some work to do,” Surtain said. “Last year wasn’t my best year. I know that as a player and as my standard, that wasn’t a year I hold myself to. Obviously I made the Pro Bowl, which is a pretty big accomplishment, but I think things that matter is All-Pros for sure, and that’s what people are going to look at at the end of the day.”
