49ers place Ricky Pearsall on Reserve/Non-Football Injury List

The 49ers placed rookie WR Ricky Pearsall on the reserve/non-football injury list after he was shot in the chest during an attempted robbery.

Pearsall escaped a terrifying situation on Saturday after a 17-year-old male tried to rob him. A physical struggle ensued that resulted in both him and the suspect being shot during the incident.

His mother announced that the bullet exited his back and missed vital organs on social media.

The 49ers’ rookie wideout was taken to the San Francisco General Hospital and was later released on Sunday morning. The designation by the 49ers will require Pearsall to miss at least the first month of the season.

Before the injury, Pearsall had been dealing with shoulder and hamstring issues. However he had returned to practice last week, where he participated in non-contact drills.

He was expected to add more depth to the passing game behind fellow wideouts Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyunk, who recently inked a four-year, $120 million extension to remain with San Francisco.

In response to the situation, the 49ers have signed offensive lineman Brandon Parker to fill Pearsall’s roster spot.  He was with the team throughout the preseason, working as the backup to offensive tackles Colton McKivitz and Jaylon Moore.

His presence helps provide the team with additional depth as star left tackle Trent Williams remains out due to his contract situation. San Francisco is hoping to have that matter resolved before the season opener against the New York Jets on Monday night, Sept. 9.
