Bills acquire veteran WR Amari Cooper in trade with Browns
During the NFL offseason, the Buffalo Bills made some moves that left a lot of people scratching their heads as a team that leans heavily on superstar quarterback Josh Allen and their offense traded superstar wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans while also letting Gabe Davis walk in free agency.
Although the team was able to bring in a talented rookie wide receiver, Keon Coleman, through the NFL Draft and have a dynamic duo at the tight end position with Dawson Knox and Dalton Kincaid, the Bills still seemed to be lacking in the pass-catching department.
As a result of the team’s need for another threat downfield to fill the void left by Diggs, the Bills pulled off a trade with the Cleveland Browns this week to acquire veteran wide receiver Amari Cooper, according to Daniel Oyesfusi of ESPN.
The Buffalo Bills acquired Amari Cooper in a trade Tuesday with the Cleveland Browns, adding a true No. 1 wide receiver for star quarterback Josh Allen.
The Bills received Cooper and a 2025 sixth-round draft pick for a 2025 third-round pick and a seventh-round selection in 2026.
With the Bills unable to acquire Davante Adams in a deal with the Las Vegas Raiders, as he ultimately landed with the New York Jets, as expected, Buffalo made the intelligent pivot to bring in Cooper, who might have the same impact.

Head coach Sean McDermott talked about the addition of Cooper and how he’s anxious to get him integrated into what they do in Buffalo via ESPN.
“First and foremost, we believe in the receivers that we already have in the room,” Bills coach Sean McDermott said. “We’ll see when Amari gets here and how we can get him up to speed and get him integrated into what we do and how we do things. It’s never about one guy. We’re thankful to have him, but it’s never about just one guy. It’s about the team, so we’re anxious to get him on board here and get rolling.”
