Davante Adams gives inspired speech to Jets amid struggles

The New York Jets made two drastic moves recently by firing head coach Robert Saleh and trading for superstar wide receiver Davante Adams. Although these were thought to be steps in the right direction, the team has lost two more games and is in a difficult situation, as the 2024 NFL season could spiral out of control if they can’t right the ship.

Following the loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 7, veteran newcomer Adams gave an inspired speech to the team, as he saw a serious lack of effort and urgency, which is obviously concerning for a player who forced a trade to New York.

Adams talked about his speech to his new teammates and why it was made via Rich Cimini of ESPN.

“There was a lack of energy and urgency out there, and it was apparent,” the former Las Vegas Raiders wideout said. “I played on teams that have that winning culture, and just basically I just took a moment to let them know I had reservations about speaking up too early and being too vocal too early. But I felt like in my mind, I said, ‘F that, because we don’t have time. I have to do whatever I have to do to help the team move forward.'”

Superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the main reason Adams forced his way to New York, opened up about the speech and how things went down via ESPN.

“I just could feel like Tae’s about to say something,” Rodgers said. “And then he started talking and everybody that was in that locker room felt it. I drove home with him after the game and just told him I’m proud of him of what he said in that moment.”

With the Jets desperately needing to bounce back after last week’s loss, it’ll be interesting to see what kind of impact Adams’ words had on the team heading into Week 8’s matchup against the division-rival New England Patriots on the road at Gillette Stadium.
