Warriors’ Steve Kerr ‘thrilled’ to acquire Dennis Schroder
The Golden State Warriors added firepower to their backcourt by acquiring veteran point guard Dennis Schroder from the Brooklyn Nets.
The Warriors traded guards De’Anthony Melton and Reece Beekman, three second-round selections for Schroder, and a 2025 second-round pick.
Schroder is amid a strong campaign that has him averaging 18.4 points and a career-best 6.6 assists while shooting 45.2 percent from the floor and 38.7 percent from 3-point range on a career-high 6.5 attempts.
“I’m thrilled,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said before Sunday’s game against the Mavericks via ESPN. “I told Dennis today he’s kicked my [butt] on three different continents. You can’t beat ’em, join ’em — ’22 playoffs I thought he was brilliant against us with the Lakers. I watched him in FIBA the last two summers, in the Philippines, and we played them in London in an exhibition game. He’s a gamer, he’s a competitor, pick-and-roll player, two-way player.”
Schroder adds another element to the Warriors’ backcourt, and he will likely play significant minutes alongside star guard Stephen Curry. He is a proven scorer, and his playmaking as a passer will alleviate some of the ball-handling duties, allowing Curry to play more fluidly in the offense.

Schroder will help fill that role with the bench unit, helping Buddy Hield become a bigger factor off the bench. He is in the second year of his two-year, $25.4 million deal, which makes his time with the Warriors even more important. It will be a pivotal factor in determining his next deal in the summer of 2025.
