Spurs acquire star guard De’Aaron Fox in trade with Kings

All-Star point guard De’Aaron Fox has a new NBA home after the Sacramento Kings agreed to a trade with the San Antonio Spurs as part of a three-team deal.

Beyond Fox heading to the Spurs, the Kings received All-Star guard Zach Lavine along with guard Sidy Cissoko, three first-round selections, and three second-round picks.

Meanwhile, the Chicago Bulls will recapture their 2025 first-round pick from the Spurs along with big man Zach Collins, guard Tre Jones, and guard Kevin Huerter. The Bulls are waiving forward Torrey Craig and guard Chris Duarte to create roster spots.

Fox spent his first seven-plus seasons with the Kings, where he developed into one of the league’s top guards. He has become a bonafide scorer while he ranks fourth in career points in franchise history.

The 27-year-old is currently averaging 25.0 points, 6.1 assists, and 5.0 rebounds while shooting 46.9 percent from the floor and 32.2 percent from beyond the arc.

Fox took to social media to express gratitude toward his time with Sacramento.

“I’m grateful I got to spend the beginning of my young adulthood here,” Fox wrote in an Instagram post. “The love for the city is unmatched. To the fans — y’all deserve the best. I wanted to end my career here and never expected it would end this way, but I’ll always be grateful for your support.”

Fox is in the fourth year of his five-year, $163 million rookie max contract that will pay him $37 million next season. He holds the opportunity to become part of the foundation with the Spurs alongside All-Star big man Victor Wembanyama.
