Bengals superstar Ja’Marr Chase reacts to embarrassing loss

The Cincinnati Bengals headed into the 2025 NFL season with high hopes of being a legitimate title contender in the AFC, with a healthy Joe Burrow under center and star players like Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and Trey Hendrickson getting paid.

Despite starting the season 2-0, the team has now lost two straight and appears disoriented on the football field without Burrow under center, who is expected to miss three months. The Denver Broncos crushed the Bengals (28-3) in Week 4, which has led to frustration from Chase, via ESPN’s Ben Baby.

“Urgency is there, man, it’s just you gotta want it,” Chase said after the game. “At the end of the day, we gotta want it. Today, it didn’t look like we wanted it.”

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor sympathized with Chase’s frustration, with the team looking completely inept offensively despite having two of the best wide receivers in the league downfield.

“It comes across as emotional, but that’s just a captain that works his tail off,” Taylor said. “All he wants to do is win the game. All he wants to do is affect the game. Often times, he feels like, ‘If I have the ball in my hand, I can do that.’ And I don’t disagree with him.”

With it still being early in the season, the Bengals can turn it around, but the frustration is mounting for this once-promising young team.

“I’m always frustrated if I’m losing,” Chase said. “But it’s part of the game, man. Sometimes the emotions take over. Sometimes it looks like what it’s not supposed to. It happens.”

It’ll be interesting to see what the Bengals brass does to try to right the ship, as there’s a chance this team could seek an upgrade at quarterback over Jake Browning and may try to fix the offensive line.
