UFC on Fuel 8: Silva vs Stann
Wanderlei Silva is a living MMA legend. Known as “the axe murderer,” he went undefeated for four long years.
Brian Stann is struggling to stay relevant in the UFC. The former WEC champ has won a handful of high profile fights in the UFC, including one against Chris Leben. However, he is 2-1 on his last three fights, coming up on the losing end in high profile battles against Chael Sonnen and Michael Bisping.
On Saturday March 2, UFC fans will get the opportunity to see Wanderlei Silva take on Brian Stann is match up where both fighters feel they are in a must win.
As much as I hyped Silva in that first sentence up there, he is long past his prime at 36-years-old. Silva was once an absolute unbeatable beast. He has now lost four of last six fights. He is going to need this win in order for his MMA career to decline with grace.
Stann is going to end up on the UFC chopping block if he can’t get this high profile win. With a handful of high profile losses on his MMA record all ready he cannot handle another one. He needs to prove that he is still a a relevant fighter by defeating a legend.
Both these fighters like to strike. Silva’s KO abilities are the stuff of legend, while all of Stann’s wins have either came by decision or KO. This fight will likely be a slugfest, which should make an entertaining watch on free-to-view television.
Brian Stann is favored to win this fight according to the money line likely due to Silva’s age, and the assumption that many have made that he is a fighter that is fighting well past his prime. To bet on Stann the money line is at -280. Silva’s money line is at +220.
