MLB Monday Preview (April 29, 2013)
It is a good for baseball. There are a handful of great games today that worth your time and possibly your money. Here is a preview of some of the marquee games for today.
Washington Nationals @ Atlanta Braves
The two teams with the best standings in the NL East will collide in their second series of the season. The first time these two teams met the Atlanta Braves swept the Washington Nationals in the three game series. In the last game of the series the Braves walked away with a seemingly easy win, a 9-0 victory. The Nationals were still not impressed however.
“I still don’t think that they are better than us. They are hot right now…It doesn’t last forever. So I’m not worried about it.”
-Danny Espinosa, Nationals second baseman
At the time of the sweep the Braves were on a 10 game winning streak and were positioned comfortably on top the NL East standings. The Braves are not as hot now. The Nationals are right on the heels of the Braves now in terms of standings. Also the Braves are on a four game losing streak.
In the opening of this series the Nationals will be starting Stephen Strasburg. He has a 3.16 ERA. In his last start he struck out seven, walked one and allowed just five hits over seven innings.
Julio Teheran will be starting for the Braves. Teheran had a quality start in his last game throwing 70 of 90 pitches for a strike.
The Nationals are favored for according to the point spread with a -138 money line. The Braves money line is set at +118.
San Francisco Giants @ Arizona Diamondbacks
Both the San Francisco Giants and the Arizona Diamondbacks will be starting struggling ace pitchers in the opener of this series between these two division rivals. Both Matt Cain of San Francisco and Ian Kennedy of Arizona are combined 1-4. Both these pitchers will be looking to get back into the swing of things against each other in this game.
The Giants likely do not feel good coming into this game as they have been struggling on the road as of late. They have lost six consecutive games on the road.
The Diamond backs are favored to win this game with a -115 money line. The Giants money line is at +105.
