Virginia vs Pittsburgh and other ACC Games
The ACC conference schedule heats up this week headlined by the Virginia Cavaliers vs. the Pittsburgh Panthers.
Currently three teams are tied at the top of the Atlanta Division of the ACC. Clemson, Florida State and Boston College are all 1-0. Maryland and Syracuse have yet to play a conference game, while North Carolina State and Wake Forest are 0-1.
In the coastal division, Virginia Tech leads at 1-0, while Georgia Tech is 2-1 and Pittsburgh 1-1. Miami and Virginia have yet to start their conference schedule, while North Carolina is 0-1 and Duke is 0-2.
The ACC game of the week has the Pittsburgh Panthers hosting the Virginia Cavaliers. Virginia is 2-1 on the season and is looking to open its ACC schedule with a win. Pittsburgh is 2-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play and needs a win to remain near the top in the Coastal Division. Tom Savage the Pitt quarterback tied an ACC record by throwing for six touchdowns against Duke last week. This is Pitt’s first season in the ACC.
North Carolina has a great matchup this weekend against East Carolina. The Tar Heels secondary is weak and Shane Carden, the quarterback for East Carolina will give them a test. The Pirate’s offense is pass oriented and will test North Carolina the entire game.
North Carolina ranks low against the pass, but has had three interceptions this season, all by their secondary. Carden has eight touchdown passes and has completed almost 75% of his passes this season.
Clemson scored only 26 points last week versus N.C. State, but will face Wake Forest this week. The Tigers should be able to return to their high scoring ways against the weak Demon Deacons defense.
Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd has thrown seven touchdowns in two games versus Wake Forest. Wake is an underdog by four touchdowns in this matchup.
The Demon Deacons allowed 315 yards passing from Louisiana Monroe. This game could be a huge blowout by Clemson if the defense cannot slow down the Tigers potent offense.
Troy faces the Duke Blue Devils, who are coming off a 58-55 loss against Pittsburgh. The Blue Devils gave up 598 of offense to Pitt, and face a powerful Troy offense. The Trojans are averaging 35 points per game and 457 yards.
Troy defeated Savannah State this season and scored 66 points in the process. Duke is favored by 11 points but knows that Troy will spread the defense and make it a challenge for the Blue Devils to stop them.
Andre Williams, the senior running back for Boston College could be the most important player the Eagles have on the field today against the No. 8 ranked Florida State Seminoles. Williams is averaging 118 yards per game rushing and had 204 against Wake Forest.
He averages 25 carries per game and should get plenty of opportunities against a mediocre rush defense of Florida State. The more he runs the ball the more time Boston College can take off the clock and keep the Seminoles powerful offense off the field.
