Flushing, N.Y., will be the destination of choice for tennis fans over the next two weeks as the world’s best compete in the final tennis major of the year. 2013 men’s champion Rafael Nadal withdrew from the event with injury, leaving Novak Djokavic as the favorite. Meanwhile, Serena Williams enters yet another tournament as favorite in the ladies’ event.

Tuesday
International Basketball: USA vs. Slovenia
With its 12-man roster in place, the United States men’s basketball team will play one more warmup game ahead of the 2014 FIBA World Cup, commencing August 30 in Spain. On Tuesday, Team USA will face fellow qualifiers Slovenia in Gran Canaria, Canary Islands. Watch as head coach Mike Kryzewski looks to mold his players into a fine-tuned unit ahead of the tournament proper.

Wednesday
MLB: St. Louis Cardinals at Pittsburgh Pirates
Wednesday sees postseason hopefuls the St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates close out a three-game set with a matinee in the Steel City. The Pirates are still within striking distance of the Cardinals in the wild card race, but will need to score wins in this series if they’re to avoid slip sliding away.

Thursday
NCAAF: No. 21 Texas A&M at No. 9 South Carolina
While college football season officially begins on Wednesday with a matchup between Abilene Christian and Georgia State, Thursday sees the first headline action of the long weekend, including this top 25 matchup between No. 9 South Carolina and No. 21 Texas A&M. Much is expected of the SEC again this season, and this game should set the conference standard out early.

Friday
MLB: Milwaukee Brewers at San Francisco Giants
Both the Milwaukee Brewers and San Francisco Giants are making postseason plans, but both clubs will need to fend off opposition to ensure they book a place in the National League’s top five. The two clubs start a three-game series on Friday night, a series that could damage both sides’ October chances.
