TNF Fallout: Dolphins Cover The Spread, Beat Bills

The Miami Dolphins were five-point favorites as they hosted the Buffalo Bills, and they more than covered the spread with a 22-9 victory.

Coming into the game, the discussion was how similar the two teams were. Both had 5-4 records, both had fared similarly in betting trends and both relied on their defense more than anything else to get the job done. In the end, it was Miami who maintained their winning record moving to 6-4 straight up and 6-4 against the spread.

Miami’s defense was able to hold off the Bills while Tannehill struggled to find his footing. In the first quarter, he fumbled the ball in the red zone and cost his team several opportunities with questionable decision making. Tannehill found his footing in the second half and had one of the best games of his career. His completion percentage was 76.5 percent. The third highest he has ever finished with.

The Bills defense did not take the night, but their offense could never get rolling. Buffalo’s run game was not enough on its own and Kyle Orton had too many incompletion and made too many mistakes.

In the end it was the Dolphins defense that won out. It is a defense that should intimidate every team left on their schedule and teams vying for the AFC

The Bills are fighting an uphill battle. They have the Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots left to face. At 5-5, their playoff hopes are beginning to look dismal.

Meanwhile, the Dolphins schedule is a bit more favorable, despite having the Pats and Broncos ahead of them. They are also a game ahead of the Bills which poises them for snatching a Wildcard spot.

The Dolphins have yet to catch the attention of the sports books, likely because of their so-so 6-4 record. They sit at 50/1 to win the Super Bowl. However, if their defense keeps winning them games it will not be long before their odds rise.
