Brett Hundley and Packers in Big NFC North Game Against Lions

Week 9 of the NFL regular season concludes with Monday Night Football when the Detroit Lions visit the Green Bay Packers for an NFC North showdown. The current line has Detroit favored by 2 points with the over/under point total sitting on 43.

Entering this game, Detroit on the season is 3-4 straight up and against the spread. On the road, the Lions are 2-1 SU and ATS. Green Bay on the season is 4-3 SU and 3-4 ATS. At home, the Packers are 3-1 SU and 2-2 ATS.

The Packers and Lions are trying to address problems with each of their offenses entering this big game on Monday Night. Green Bay has seen its potent offense take a big hit when it lost quarterback Aaron Rodgers to injury, while Detroit has not been consistent enough once they reach their opponent’s red zone.

Brett Hundley took over for the injured Rodgers and after throwing three interceptions when relieving the two-time NFL MVP, he threw just one interception and completed 12 of his 25 passes in his first career NFL start but the Packers lost 26-17 to New Orleans.

Green Bay followed that loss with a bye week and both Rodgers and coach Mike McCarthy worked during the week off with Hundley as the Packers try to address a lack of offensive firepower.

Detroit’s signal caller Matthew Stafford and his Lions’ teammates lost to Pittsburgh 20-15 last week despite Stafford’s 423 yards passing. The Lions were 0-for-5 in Pittsburgh’s red zone and are No. 28 in the NFL in that stat as they scored just 5 field goals in the game.

Lions wide receiver Golden Tate caught 7 passes against Pittsburgh while Marvin Jones Jr. caught 6 for the third straight game. However, the running game continues to lack as the Lions have failed to have a running back rush for 100 or more yards in one game since 2013.

Hundley said the additional time he had during the off week talking with Rodgers has helped give him more confidence headed into this game.

Green Bay wide receiver Jordy Nelson was tied for second in the league entering this week in receiving touchdowns with six, but two weeks ago against the Saints caught just on pass.

Detroit is 5-11 ATS in its last 16 games versus opponents from the NFC North.

Green Bay is 6-2 ATS in its last 8 games played at home.

Prediction: Green Bay will keep the game close and cover in the end.
